The metro works well from Jiefangbei when you travel light. With large suitcases, a taxi or booked car takes you to a railway entrance. Inside Chongqing East, floor signs guide you between the waiting hall, metro and car pickups.
Where to find the station
Chongqing East sits in Nan'an district, southeast of Chayuan. On ticket apps and map searches, look for Chongqing East, Chongqingdong, or 重庆东站. You can also find the exact spot using the Chongqing East map pin.
Getting to Chongqing East by metro
The East Station segment of Line 6 runs separately from the main line. Each city route below changes at Liujiaping (刘家坪). Get off there and follow the 重庆东站 direction on the same platform. Board the train to Chongqing East without leaving the ticket gates or buying another ticket.
- From Jiefangbei and Chaotianmen: Start at Xiaoshizi (小什字). Ride Line 6 toward Chayuan (茶园) to Liujiaping, then change on the same platform.
- From Guanyinqiao (观音桥): Ride Line 3 toward Jiangbei Airport T2 (江北机场T2航站楼) for one stop to Hongqihegou (红旗河沟). Switch to Line 6 toward Chayuan, ride to Liujiaping, and change on the same platform.
- From Chongqing North station: At either South Square (重庆北站南广场) or North Square (重庆北站北广场), take Line 10 toward Lanhualu (兰花路). Change at Hongtudi (红土地) to Line 6 heading toward Chayuan, then switch at Liujiaping.
- From Jiangbei Airport: Catch Line 10 from your airport terminal toward Lanhualu. Transfer at Hongtudi to Line 6 toward Chayuan, then change at Liujiaping.
For metro tickets and route tools, use the Chongqing metro guide.
Taking a taxi or booked car to departures
A car is useful with several bags because it takes you to the railway entrance level. Ask for the north or south elevated drop-off platform at Chongqing East. Both lead to railway entry. The east and west sides have entrance plazas.
You can show the driver 重庆东站,铁路进站口: Chongqing East, railway entrance. The DiDi and ride-hailing guide explains how to order a car.
Finding your waiting hall and boarding gate

From the metro concourse on 1F, follow 铁路进站 (railway entrance) signs up to the main waiting hall on 5F.
- Go through railway security at the entrance of the 5F waiting hall.
- Find your train number on the departure board and go to the listed boarding gate.
- Head to the gate when boarding opens. Chongqing East uses a combined check (验检合一), checking your ticket and identity at the boarding gate itself.
- Follow the gate’s route down to your platform, then find your carriage and seat.
Carry the original document used for your booking. If you booked with your passport, take it to the staffed lane. Passengers with accepted machine-readable documents can use the automatic lanes. Boarding closes before departure; the station display gives the closing time.
Leaving Chongqing East after your train arrives
After leaving your train, follow the exit route to the 3F exit hall. Choose your onward transport there:
By metro: Follow the rail-to-metro signs down to 1F. Arriving rail travelers can enter the metro concourse through this dedicated transfer hall without going through a second security screening. Board the shuttle train to Liujiaping, then change on the same platform to Line 6 toward Beibei (北碚).
- For eastern Jiefangbei, stay on Line 6 until Xiaoshizi. For western Jiefangbei and Jiaochangkou (较场口), change at Xiaoshizi to Line 1 toward Bishan (璧山) for one stop.
- For Guanyinqiao, change at Hongqihegou to Line 3 toward Yudong (鱼洞) for one stop.
- For Chongqing North railway station or Jiangbei Airport, change at Hongtudi to Line 10 toward Wangjiazhuang (王家庄). Get off at your chosen station square or airport terminal.
By regular taxi: Follow the 出租车 (taxi) signs down to 2F. Taxi ranks are on both the north and south sides.
By DiDi or ride-hailing cars: Follow the 网约车 (ride-hailing) signs to the designated pickup lot on the north side of 2F. The ride-hailing display shows vehicles and their pickup bays.
High-speed trains to Wulong Karst
For a high-speed trip to Wulong, search 重庆东 → 武隆南 on 12306. Wulong South (武隆南) and Wulong (武隆) are separate stations.
The Wulong day-trip guide covers the next journey from the station to the scenery. For ticket booking and comparisons between Chongqing's main stations, read the intercity train guide.
Other stations on this corridor include Nanchuan North (南川北), Pengshui West (彭水西) and Qianjiang (黔江). Match the full station name when choosing your onward train.
Travel tips: time, luggage, and facilities
For a first visit, we suggest reaching Chongqing East about 60 minutes before your train. Allow for security, the walk across the waiting hall and boarding. Work back from that arrival time when choosing when to leave your hotel.
For an early train, compare the first service at your starting metro station with your station arrival target. Choose a car if the metro leaves too little time. After metro service ends, use the station's taxi or ride-hailing pickup.
Large lifts in the north and south transport halls connect the station floors. Follow 直梯 (lift) signs with suitcases. Luggage lockers are in the 1F metro concourse, useful if you want to leave bags while visiting the city. Waiting areas also have charging seats and charging poles.
