Start with the picture you want: glowing cliffside buildings, a monorail passing through an apartment block, or high towers above two rivers. Each needs a different viewpoint. The free riverbanks show the skyline from outside; hill parks and paid decks show how the streets stack up inside.

Hongyadong from across the Jialing River

For the classic photo of glowing Hongya Cave (洪崖洞), head across the Jialing River to Jiangbeizui (江北嘴). The bank beside Chongqing Grand Theater (重庆大剧院) looks straight at the complex on the Yuzhong peninsula.

Take metro Line 6 to Grand Theater station (大剧院), then leave through Exit 2 onto the theater plaza. Follow the paved riverside path toward Qiansimen Bridge (千厮门大桥). Allow about 20 to 30 minutes to walk from the station and pick your angle.

Keep water in the foreground and frame Qiansimen Bridge on one side. This shows the wooden buildings sitting right on the cliff. To avoid riverbank steps, stay on the flat upper plaza beside the theater.

Hongyadong close up and from the bridge

On the Yuzhong side, Jiabin Road (嘉滨路) runs along the foot of the buildings. Look up from here to photograph the stacked balconies and carved wooden beams.

Cangbai Road (沧白路) sits at the top of the cliff. From this upper street, walk out onto the pedestrian path of Qiansimen Bridge for a raised view over the roofs. Choose your street level before arriving to avoid climbing extra stairs. Our Hongya Cave guide explains the walking routes from Xiaoshizi station.

Save the view and the street level

Save the Grand Theater map point for the wide river view. On the Yuzhong side, choose one of these entrances:

View you want Entrance to save Gate reference
Low angle from Jiabin Road Jiabin Road, Floor 1, Gate 7 Amap Gate 7 listing
Upper level before the bridge walk Cangbai Road, Floor 11, Gate 1 Amap Gate 1 listing

Set your walking app to the gate you want. When booking a taxi, pick the exact street name: Jiabin Road and Cangbai Road reach different floors of the same building.

For the Yangtze skyline, save Longmenhao Old Street. For the river junction, save Chaotianmen. The 8D city walk adds street-level photo spots where bridges, doors and rooftops meet at different heights.

Liziba in daylight

Liziba's public platform gives you a clear shot of a Line 2 monorail train running through a residential building. Daylight makes the track beam and building opening easy to photograph.

  1. Take metro Line 2 to Liziba station (李子坝).
  2. Leave through the ticket gates.
  3. Follow signs downstairs to the street-level viewing platform (观景平台).

Station upgrades continue in 2026, so follow the posted signs. Our Liziba train guide covers platform angles and train intervals.

Stand near the middle or back of the platform to capture the track and the apartment building together. Use the first passing train to frame your shot, then take photos of the next one. Set aside about 45 to 60 minutes for the metro ride, platform visit and train passes.

Longmenhao and the Yangtze skyline

Longmenhao Old Street (龙门浩老街) sits on the south bank beneath Dongshuimen Bridge (东水门大桥). Grey-brick buildings, tiled roofs and open courtyards face the towers of Yuzhong across the water. Use an old roof in the foreground to show the contrast between historic lanes and modern high-rises. Outdoor cafe terraces offer good raised angles.

Take metro Line 6 to Shangxinjie station (上新街). A taxi can drop you at either the upper lane entrance or the riverfront below. At the bottom, Nanbin Road (南滨路) has a broad riverside walkway for wider skyline photos. The nearby Yangtze cableway offers moving river shots. For quiet tea stops near your photo route, see our guide to old streets and teahouses.

Chaotianmen for the meeting of two rivers

Chaotianmen (朝天门) sits at the tip of the Yuzhong peninsula, where the green Jialing River meets the brown Yangtze. The outdoor public plazas around Raffles City are free and look out over riverboats and bridges. Take metro Line 1 to Chaotianmen station; the mall offers an air-conditioned break between photo stops.

Include a riverboat or people near the railing to show the scale of the water. The color contrast between the two rivers shifts with rainfall and river levels.

Choose a paid skyline deck

Pick one deck for the view you want. These are three separate buildings with different entrances.

WFC: towers and bridges from central Yuzhong

WFC Observation Deck (WFC会仙楼观景台) suits a broad view over central Yuzhong, river bridges and the water. It costs about CNY 118 (≈ USD 18 ) per adult. The deck occupies floors 73 to 75 of Chongqing World Financial Center (重庆环球金融中心), with indoor glass rooms and an open rooftop on floor 75.

Use 民族路188号 to find the building near Jiefangbei, then head to the LG entrance level. This is a handy choice when you want a high panorama during a Jiefangbei walk.

Cloud Eye: an open rooftop near the cableway

Cloud Eye (重庆云端之眼), also called Chongqing Eye, offers an open helipad surrounded by high-rise towers. It costs about CNY 60–70 (≈ USD 9.0–10 ) per person.

It sits in United International Building (联合国际大厦), at 新华路201号, near the north terminal of the Yangtze cableway. Enter on floor 67 for the indoor area and stairs to the roof. It works well for open-air skyline portraits right after a cableway ride.

Raffles City: above the river junction

Raffles City Exploration Deck (来福士探索舱·云端乐园) looks down over Chaotianmen and the two meeting rivers. Sightseeing tickets cost about CNY 128 (≈ USD 19 ) per adult.

Enter on L1 on the Jialing side of the mall, at 接圣街8号. The deck sits on L47 inside the Crystal bridge, 250 meters above ground. Its glass walkway gives you a high vantage point over Chaotianmen; the public plazas below remain a free photo choice.

Free hill parks for another city angle

Pipashan: paths, trees and city layers

Pipashan Park (枇杷山公园) is a free hill park with paved paths leading up to Hongxing Pavilion (红星亭). Choose it for greenery and views of modern towers rising between old trees, rather than a close look at Hongya Cave.

Take Line 1 or 10 to Qixinggang station (七星岗), then walk uphill to the entrance at 枇杷山正街74号. A taxi to this Main Street gate saves walking up the steep neighbourhood streets outside. There is still a short climb inside the park to the pavilion.

Eling: garden views, then downhill to TestBed 2

Eling Park (鹅岭公园) offers free gardens and ridge views between the two rivers. Take Line 1 to Eling station (鹅岭), Exit 1, and walk along Eling Main Street to the park gate at 鹅岭正街176号.

After visiting the park, walk downhill along Eling Main Street to TestBed 2 (鹅岭贰厂) for renovated factory buildings and cafe spots. If you start at Liziba at the bottom of the hill, take a short taxi ride up to Eling Park and walk downhill from there.

Make one evening feel relaxed

For Hongya Cave, spend the evening at Jiangbeizui. For two stops along the Yangtze, start at Longmenhao's terraces before sunset. Then walk down to Nanbin Road for the night skyline. Visit Liziba or a hill park during the day. Crossing the rivers back and forth in the dark uses up the best photo light.

Get to your evening spot about 20 minutes before sunset and stay through blue hour. This lets you photograph building lights while the sky still has color. Tap a bright building on your phone screen so the lights do not blow out. Rest your phone against a railing to keep night photos sharp.
