Immersive shows and banquets: choose your Chongqing evening

A ship rises beside your seat, dancers pass your dinner table, or acrobats sweep across a river of light. Chongqing offers very different ways to spend an evening. Here is how to choose between four bookable experiences.

A theatre ticket buys a seat and a show. A banquet ticket adds a meal, with dances between courses. Choose by what you want to do..

Chongqing 1949: moving scenery and city history

The theatre was built for 重庆·1949, a drama set before Chongqing's liberation in 1949. It follows imprisoned revolutionaries and local families. Prison cells, old streets and a large ship move through the theatre as scenes change. The political history and tragic story are central to the show.

Choose a moving-seat package if turning with the sets is the main draw. The seat map shows the sections and moving seats. A seats bring you closer to the action; B seats give a wider view.

Getting to the 1949 theatre

Pair the show with an afternoon in Ciqikou for an easy trip to the theatre. Take Metro Line 1 to Ciqikou, then use the 1949 theatre map point for the final walk. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the booked show.

For a taxi, copy 重庆市沙坪坝区磁器口金碧正街999号重庆1949大剧院. This is the Ciqikou theatre; the separate Chongqing Grand Theatre is across town in Jiangbei.

Liyan Baguo: give the whole banquet time

礼宴巴国 takes place in the Baguo Hall at Huali Banquet. Tables surround a T-shaped stage on three sides. Dancers perform close to the dining area, while courses arrive during the show.

The programme changed in August 2026. The newer production mixes Ba origin myths, war dances and futuristic images. This is a staged cultural meal, with contemporary theatre effects.

The meal and performance take roughly 100 minutes in the current Ctrip schedule. Allow around three hours for the courtyard, eating and photos. Before the banquet, the garden offers pitch-pot, traditional ball games, calligraphy and chess. Lunch gives you daylight for outdoor photos; dinner puts the lit stage at the centre of the evening.

The music, costumes and dances give plenty to watch even if you do not follow every line. Buy this for the meal-and-show occasion. For a trip focused on everyday Chongqing food, give hotpot its own meal.

Copy 重庆市九龙坡区红狮大道6号15幢巴国城公园内华礼宴巴国厅 for the venue. The Ctrip arrival guide names Erlang station on the Loop Line, about 800 metres away. Use a taxi for the final leg if you are dressed for photos.

Qingyu Banquet: court dining in Dashiba

庆渝宴 is at Yangpaoju 1862 in Dashiba, Jiangbei. Court-style rooms, dances between courses and the Yongle market make this a good choice for friends who want photos and a meal together.

The main meal and show last about 90 minutes. Allow around two and a half hours with the market, and more for costume and makeup appointments. Visit the market for games and photos before the meal and show.

This works best as entertainment with a meal. Recent reviews differ on the food, while the costumes and performance are a common reason for booking. Put it on a day when you are exploring Jiangbei.

Copy 重庆市两江新区大石坝洋炮局1862庆渝宴 for your driver. “1862” names the cultural complex; use the full venue name to find the entrance.

Yangtze River: acrobatics with a river story

The large fantasy acrobatic drama 《长江》 opened in May 2026 at 重庆国际马戏城. Human performers, aerial ropes, illusions and broad projected landscapes tell a story about the river and its changing life. The production uses a 270-degree visual setting and has no animal acts.

This is the easiest choice here if you want physical performance more than dialogue. You can enjoy the acrobatics and scenery without following a long conversation. The resident show lasts about 70 minutes. Its current ordinary programme starts at 19:30; choose the date shown on the booking calendar, since holiday programmes can add sessions.

The circus is on the eastern stretch of Nanbin Road, near Dafu Temple Bridge. Copy 重庆市南岸区南滨东路4号重庆国际马戏城, or open its map point. The operator recommends the Loop Line to Danzishi followed by about 10 minutes in a taxi.

Booking and arrival tips

• The current Yangtze listing requires a ticket for everyone and does not recommend the show for under-threes.
• At 1949, keep cameras away during the performance. The circus operator allows photos and video with flash off.
